After a delicious and filling breakfast at Oma's we women split from the guys to finish our shopping from the day before. While waiting for us, t.he guys did whatever guys do. We met up and left Frankenmuth around 1pm to drive to the 2021 Michigan Roundup in the Heart of the Hills.
The drive wasn't far, but it was stressful. The backroad was a secondary highway that went through a series of connected towns with stop lights at every block. The lights were strung high and once we were stopped we couldn't see them in our car unless you ducked down and looked up. In addition to that poor colorblind Steve couldn't tell what color the lights were without my help.! Somehow we all stayed together and after 2 1/2 hours we finally arrived at the Marriot Hotel where we will call home for 3 days.
Model A's were already filling the parking lot when we arrived. Cars come from all over the US, but most are trailered. People are always impressed when they realize we drive ours.
As we entered the Marriot we saw parked in the lobby a 1931 Model A Ice Cream truck. It's rare to see something like this as most don't survive 90 years. The owner had passed away and his children are hoping to sell it at the Roundup. Steve doesn't want a summer job selling ice cream so no, we aren't buying it!
This evening the Roundup had a Model A Cruise Night at Culvers. Thom, Lee and Evelyn decided to go. Steve and I made plans to have dinner with my great niece and nephew and their family who live in the Detroit area. We haven't seen them in years and it was fun visiting and catching up on the news.
Before the night ended we invited our MN traveling companions to our room for crackers, cheese, wine and good conversation. Tomorrow will be a busy day with a swap meet, self guided car tours and a banquet in the evening.
