Our drive today was 175 miles to Holland, MI. It was a scenic drive and the weather once again was perfect. Along the way we passed the most beautiful field of sunflowers and of course, I didn't have my camera handy so I missed the picture. If Steve and I were driving alone we could have backed up and stopped, but that's not possible with a caravan of cars.
Holland, MI is a city on the shores of Lake Macatawa. We arrived around 2:30 at Windmill Island Gardens and spent the afternoon enjoying the beauty of the Island.
The island is home to De Zwaan, a centuries-old windmill. The name De Zwaan is the Dutch name for Graceful Bird or the Swan. This is the oldest authentic working Dutch windmill in the US and is a tourist destination. We toured the windmill, and were disappointed, but not surprised it wasn't grinding grain because of Covid.
Downtown Holland was the center of activity and had several outside restaurants overflowing with people taking advantage of the nice weather. We decided to join the crowd and eat outside at an Irish Pub, where the food was good and so was the company.
As I've said before, when driving the A's we're always in a parade, and tonight was no different. As we left the downtown many of the diners looked and waved at us and of course, we honked our horns in return.
Tomorrow will be a very short drive to Germantown, and later we'll take the ferry to Wisconsin.
