The Road to Scotts Bluff, NE

Day 10 July 14

If yesterday had been a little different we could have gone to the Royal Gorge Suspension Bridge. It was close to where we stayed in Canon City. It was the highest bridge in the world until 2001 when China built a higher one. The bridge crosses the gorge 955 feet above the Arkansas River and I would have liked to seen it. I guess I’ll have to put that on another bucket list and that one won’t be in a Model A!

We got up a little later this morning because Steve wanted to go to Ace Hardware to buy the correct parts for his repairs. After he made sure we won’t break down again (with those issues) we took off.

Today the roads were straight and the land flat. Nothing of significance happened as we drove, no closed roads, no breakdowns or anything nerve-racking, and the landscape has changed to fields of wheat and corn. Actually, it was kind of boring compared to yesterday.

We drove 315 miles to Scotts Bluff, NE where we’re spending the night. Tomorrow we will drive to Ghost Canyon Get Away and spend a short vacation with our family who will be arriving there tomorrow. From 1962 - 1964 I spent 2 weeks each summer there when it was a camp called Ghost Canyon Ranch. I have fond memories of that time and have loved the Black Hills ever since.
