Day 15 July 19
We made it home today, but just barely. I thought for sure we would either be spending another night in Huron or being towed home.
The Model A was tired and didn’t want to start. Steve worked on it for an hour and half and he still doesn’t know what’s the matter with the car. Everything looked fine, but it just wouldn’t start. He finally sprayed ether on it and although that may not have been the fix, the car finally turned over. We left Huron at 8:30 to make the last leg of our journey.
The roads were good, scenery was corn and other crops growing in farmland and the traffic was light, until we reached closer to home. Along the way we stopped for gas twice and both times Steve had to adjust the gas to keep the car running. Finally, we were 3 miles from home and were stopped at a light. The light turned green for “go” and the “A” did everything it could to quit. It back fired, missed and almost stopped completely in the left lane! Cars were going around us like crazy. I’m surprised no one honked in anger, We had 4 more traffic lights to go through and most of them were red! One red light we avoided by turning into a parking lot and out again just to keep it running. Finally we made it to our neighborhood and home! Whew what a ride!
I want to thank you all for joining us on our journey and I hope you’ve enjoyed it. It has certainly been a memorable one for us.
